Before It’s News

Here is video of actor Jon Voight on “Huckabee” tonight where he read a blistering indictment of Barack Obama, and called on Americans to stand up and save the nation for future generations.

Voight gave a personal and emotional appeal, and hammered the radical agenda being carried out by Obama. Voight even brought up the fact that Barack Obama’s father was a “Marxist,” and that he “hated America because he saw America as aggressors.”

Is the Republican establishment using race-baiting and voter fraud?

Apparently, the Republican establishment will use any means necessary to suppress spontaneous outbreaks of democracy among ordinary Americans.Incumbent and Republican establishment darling Senator Thad Cochran R-MS faced a tough challenge in the June 3rd Republican primary from Tea Party-backed State Senator Chris McDaniel.

Although Cochran maintained a lead over McDaniel in terms of campaign finances, the primary results did not provide a clear winner. McDaniel 49.5%, 155,040 received more votes than Cochran 49%, 153,654, but a third candidate, Thomas Carey 1.5%, 4,789, took just enough votes so that McDaniel did not receive the 50% of the vote necessary to avoid a runoff. One week later, the Republican establishment was stunned when House Majority Leader Eric Cantor R-VA, who was in line to be the next House Speaker, was crushed in his primary by Tea Party-backed economics professor Dave Brat, who received 55.8% of the vote compared to Cantor’s 44.2%.

That result set the stage for an epic battle between a battered Republican establishment and a rejuvenated Tea Party in the June 24, 2014 Mississippi Senatorial run-off between Cochran and McDaniel, a contest the Republican establishment knew it could not afford to lose. The Republican establishment went into full panic mode when a WPA Research poll conducted between June 9th and 10th showed McDaniel’s lead over Cochran among 500 likely GOP primary runoff voters had shot up to eight points, 49% and 41%, respectively.Clearly, Cochran was losing ground among

jarrwin (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

Republican voters and the Republican establishment likely then decided that it could only close the gap by adopting Democratic Party tactics and soliciting cross-over votes from registered Democrats.Cochran used Democratic Party talking points about Tea Party candidates, leveling personal attacks against McDaniel, calling him an “extremist” and “dangerous.”……………….

The RINOs: A HistoryThe Feehery Theory

When news broke that Eric Cantor had lost his primary, Ed Gillespie, the Republican nominee for the Virginia Senate seat, immediately tweeted congratulations to David Brat. The rest of the Republican party establishment, the non-sentimental lot that it is, fell into line and pledged to support the winner.Cantor had been defeated.

jfkwarng (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

There was no talk of starting a third party or sitting the election out. Sure, there was some anger and disappointment, but rank and file Republicans moved on.Contrast with the news of what happened last night. Long before it became clear that Thad Cochran, a long-time Republican incumbent and overall highly respected senior Statesman, had been reelected, Tea Partiers had a existential meltdown.

Sarah Palin went on Sean Hannity’s Show and threatened to start a third party. Prominent bloggers cried that if they didn’t get their way, they would drop out of politics entirely. Laura Ingraham, who led the charge against Cantor, threatened to join Palin. The biggest epithet the Tea Party crowd likes to throw at prominent establishment types like me is that we are RINO’s.

jarrwin (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

A RINO is a Republican In Name Only. But who is really the RINO? The one who fights for the nominee no matter who he or she is or the one who threatens to bolt the party every time a primary election doesn’t go their way? This ideological fight has been going on a long time.It started when Teddy Roosevelt – who is most famous these days for occasionally winning the President’s race at Nationals stadium – started the Bull Moose Party because he thought his successor wasn’t doing a sufficient job in continuing his legacy.Roosevelt accused William Howard Taft of not really being a Republican, and vice versa.

pattonpol (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

The fight continued in the 1920’s, when Joe Cannon of Illinois battled with Bob LaFollette of Illinois. In the 1950’s, Robert Taft accused the Eisenhower Republicans of being insufficiently opposed to the New Deal, in the 1960’s, Goldwater Republicans drummed the Rockefeller Republicans out of the party, in the 1960’s, Ford battled Reagan, and in the 1980’s, the Bushs fought the Reaganites. In the late 1990’s and into the 2000’s, a great ideological sorting took place among the parties.

There was no longer a moderate wing to the GOP. The Republican party was the pro-life, pro-defense, pro-growth and pro-business party, while the Democrats were pro-choice, pro-labor and the largely pacifist. The failures in the Iraq War and the financial crisis of 2007-2008 shook the three-legged stool, and in 2010, a new force, the Tea Party, came to the table.

isthisman (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

rprprprp (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

The Tea Party is far more libertarian, far more isolationist, far less in favor of big business, far more anti-immigrant and far more reactionary than the typical Republican regular. They are far more likely to want to bolt the party if things don’t go their way. This is a familiar, but not dominant, strain in the Republican Party.

They are the Lindbergh isolationists in the 1930’s, the John Birchers in the 1950’s, the Yaffers in the 1960, the Libertarians in the 1970’s. They supported Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan in the 1990’s.And now they are very, very angry that the Republican Party beat them in Mississippi. Some of them will leave the party, some will sit out the next election, and some will continue to agitate within the party structure and within the Tea party movement. And ironically, they will be the ones to call out the rest of us RINOs.

But we know who they are and who we are.TOPICS: Mississippi; Issues; Parties; U.S. SenateKEYWORDS: cantor; cochran; mcdaniel; palinGot that?John Feehery is currently the President of Quinn Gillespie Communications and Director of QGA Government Affairs. Before joining QGA, Feehery was President of the Feehery Group, a strategic advocacy firm dedicated to helping its clients achieve their legislative and communications objectives in Washington D.C., and the chief blogger for The Feehery Theory He is a frequent commentator on the political landscape, widely quoted around the country and often seen on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News Channel.

He is also a regular contributor to, Politico and to The Hill’s “Pundits Blog.”Feehery has worked for almost two decades in a variety of influential positions both as a staffer for three prominent members of the United States House of Representatives Republican leadership and a communications strategist in the private sector. Dennis Hastert. Feehery was the longest-serving top spokesman to a Speaker of the House in the history of the House of Representatives.

Before that stint, Feehery served from 1995 until 1998 as the Communications Director for Majority Whip Tom DeLay. Before becoming DeLay’s communications director, he served as the Whip office’s Chief Floor Assistant, during the historically notable “Contract with America.”

Having begun with vaulting hopes, President Barack Obama’s tenure serves as a cautionary reminder – be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it.

At home, Mr Obama’s prospects of pulling off anything big are slim to none after last week’s thunderbolt from the Tea Party.

Meanwhile, US-trained units in Iraq are dropping their weapons and fleeing far inferior al-Qaeda forces at first contact. Even Baghdad looks vulnerable. Talk about being mugged by reality.

Many claim the Tea Party movement awakened a sleeping giant in the conservative grassroots and injected a much-needed energy into the GOP. I gladly welcome that label as do many other Conservative Americans. It was because of the work of the Tea Party wave that allowed for the 2010 Republican House to become the majority in Congress. “There is no education in the second kick of a mule,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

With some such thought in mind, Speaker John Boehner strode to the floor of the House to offer a “clean” debt ceiling bill and relied on Nancy Pelosi’s Democrats to pass it. They did.

“Surrender” and “betrayal,” are among the epithets coming the Speaker’s way.

Yet Boehner was holding a losing hand. Had he added a GOP wish-list bill to the debt ceiling, Harry Reid’s Senate would have rejected it. President Obama would have denounced it as putting at risk the full faith and credit of the United States.

Reagan’s true legacy: The Tea Party … Tea Party Challenging the status quo is the correct condition of American conservatism.

The stirrings of original American conservatism were found in such sentiments. For the proper state of American conservatism — from Thomas Paine to Thomas Jefferson to Abraham Lincoln — is to be in a perpetual struggle for intellectual revolution. Ronald Reagan, whose 103rd birthday would have been Thursday, exemplified this. No surprise the Gipper regularly quoted all three men.

Mark Kessler really loves guns. “I carry an M-16 at work,” he says. He can do that because he’s a police officer — in fact, the chief of police in the tiny borough of Gilberton, a hamlet of less than a thousand in the coal-rich hills of Eastern Pennsylvania. But even in a profession where carrying a gun is part of the job description, Kessler is an outlier. Last month, he told a story to a local Tea Party group about how he was stopped by police officers in a neighboring town for displaying his machine gun to a friend, even though he was in full dress uniform. And that, Kessler said, is the problem with law enforcement today in a nutshell.

So Democrats threw gays under the bus, yet again refusing to include our number one immigration priority in the so-called “comprehensive” immigration reform bill in order to appease Republicans.

Some of us at the time had been arguing that the Republicans were bluffing; that the GOP is desperate to get immigration reform passed in order to weaken the lock the Democratic party has on the Latino vote (a population on the rise in terms of its percentage of the electorate). There is no way the GOP is going to risk killing immigration reform for anything. At least not the Senate GOP.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Arizona Sen. John McCain are once again banging heads – this time over whether to arm Syrian rebels – in the latest dispute that underscores a divide in the GOP and intensifies the fight over what the party will represent in 2016 and beyond.

Party leaders are split over how to broaden their appeal to voters .

Paul, a first-term senator and Tea Party favorite surging in popularity, took the latest shot by opposing aid to the rebels – a key part of McCain’s plan to end the two-year Syrian civil war in which 70,000 civilians and others have been killed.

From reliable sources: This happened to several Tea Party groups! The source has this in writing.

It states they wanted access to everything the members had access to, which would be chats, email, contact information, etc.

Judge Andrew Napolitano weighed in this morning on Fox and Friends on the scandal involving the IRS‘s targeting of conservative political groups, like the Tea Party.

The IRS admitted last week after years of pressure from conservative watchdog groups that it had in fact been singling out right-wing organizations for extra scrutiny of their applications for tax-exempt status.

The judge said the IRS’s actions appear to be a clear violation of the First Amendment.

RUSH: Did you hear how David Axelrod attempted to defend Obama on the IRS scandal? I think he was on MSNBC today. David Axelrod said (paraphrasing), “Well, you know, the government’s too big. The government’s simply too vast for Obama to control it.” Bingo! Exactly! That’s the whole reason the Tea Party exists. The government is too big. Not only is the government too big, it’s growing. It’s growing to the point that it is unmanageable, although that is a big, I think, diversion in and of itself.

Why Did IRS Target Conservative Groups? Was it legitimate reaction to tax-exempt electioneering?

Kevin Drum outlines what I take to be the emerging case for the defense of the IRS agents who applied special scrutiny to tax-exemption applications from Tea Party groups:

gophum (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

Roughly speaking, what seems to have happened is that three years ago the IRS was facing an explosion of newly formed 501(c)4 groups claiming tax exempt status, something that’s legal only for groups that are primarily engaged in promoting education or social welfare, not electioneering. So some folks in the Cincinnati office tried to come up with a quick filter to flag groups that deserved extra scrutiny.

rprprprp (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

But what should that flag be? Well, three years ago the explosion happened to be among tea party groups, so they began searching their database “for applications with ‘Tea Party,’ ‘Patriots,’ or ‘9/12′ in the organization’s name as well as other ‘political sounding’ names.” This was dumb, and when senior leaders found out about it, they put a quick stop to it . . .

Bill O’Reilly vs. Rush Limbaugh

There are various ways to describe the civil war rising inside the Republican Party: insiders versus outsiders, pragmatists versus true-believers, establishment versus Tea Party. Here’s another: Bill O’Reilly conservatives versus Rush Limbaugh conservatives.

Rush Limbaugh

Last week, the two media titans clashed after O’Reilly accused opponents of gay marriage of lacking “compelling argument[s]” and merely “thump[ing] the Bible.” Limbaugh responded by saying that conservative Christians “were sort of marginalized” on O’Reilly’s show.

On the surface, the scuffle merely reflected differing opinions about the arguments deployed last week at the Supreme Court. But in reality, it reflected a different view of conservatism itself.

In another break from Republican Party orthodoxy, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has said that America’s illegal immigrants should be integrated into the tax system in a program that would eventually lead to the possibility of citizenship.

Speaking about immigration issues at the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Paul said “Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport” the millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States en masse.

Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society,” the Tea Party leader and suspected 2016 presidential candidate added.

Here is video of Judge Andrew Napolitano on “Fox & Friends” this morning saying what Barack Obama is doing with the “Sequester” is “almost an impeachable offense.” Napolitano blasted Obama for using the “Sequester” to “hurt” the nation, when it is his Constitutional duty to “make the Government work.”

“He can decide where the cuts happen,” Napolitano said, even though Obama is acting as if his hands are tied and the most essential services must be cut. In reality, Napolitano pointed out Obama could fund anything he wishes to fund and cut something else less important, since he is the Chief Executive of the nation. Instead, he wants to use the “Sequester” as a political tool to demonize Republicans. Lost in all of this, of course, is that the “Sequester” was Obama’s idea to start with.

The power to tax is the power to destroy. —John Marshall – Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

On Thursday, February 14, 2013, Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican from Tennessee, joined fellow lawmakers in reintroducing a bill that would allow all states to require online retailers to collect sales tax just like their “Main Street” rivals.

The idea isn’t a new one. However, a 1992 Supreme Court decision stated that a business must have a physical presence within the state in order for the state to collect sales tax when someone purchases from that business.

Yep, Sen. Rand Paul – some Libertarian leanings and all – (and not all bad, either, especially with his middle of the road approach on foreign policy, him being neither interventionist nor isolationist) is certainly not a shill for the GOP-e… and we have had enough of that.

(Gunny G: The “Accidental” Congressman…) ~ Broun to Announce Run for Chambliss Senate Seat (Another Tea Party favorite Rove will try to defeat)

February 6, 2013 10 comments

Tea party favorite Paul Broun, who has served in the House of Representatives since 2007, is expected to announce a run to take Saxby Chambliss’ seat in the U.S. Senate.

obampoint (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

He is due to make a formal announcement Wednesday afternoon at Atlanta’s Grand Hyatt Hotel. Chambliss announced last month that he will not run for a third term, after tea party threats that the group would put up candidates to run against him in a Republican primary.

Since getting to Congress, Broun, 66, a general practice physician, has been an outspoken critic of many current federal policies. For example, he has criticized President Barack Obama’s administration for what he calls “stifling the private sector with regulation.”

Constitution Worship Revisited: I’m Still Fed Up…! by Gary D. Barnett… “I always wonder not only have any of these people ever read and studied the constitution, but also do they even understand why it was secretly drafted in the first place?”

February 4, 2013 45 comments

Last year I wrote an article titled “I’m Fed Up With Constitution Worship!” Since that time it seems, I hear more and more every day about “getting back to the constitution,” mainly from “conservatives” and those of the Tea Party persuasion.

I always wonder not only have any of these people ever read and studied the constitution, but also do they even understand why it was secretly drafted in the first place? All indications show that they aren’t at all familiar with the enabling power of that document to create a strong central governing system that reduced severely the sovereignty of the states.

Mass Media Silent As Federal Government Prepares For War With The People?!? | Media

Last September, in “The government’s war at home,” St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner looked at some ominous developments that seem to indicate preparation on the government’s part for domestic warfare. The enemy? Oh, the usual suspects in these times of fear mongering about “right-wing violence”–”anti-federalists,” “Tea Party insurgents,” militias, etc.
