The Case for Austerity by Andrew P. Napolitano
Unlike an individual or a well-run corporation, government is not motivated by how efficient it can be, but rather by how lucrative it can be for those associated with it, and how those who run the government can stay in power.
Someone who was philosophically opposed to government domination of the housing market wouldn’t perpetuate it by taking one red penny of taxpayer money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, like the former Speaker did, whether he calls himself a historian or a lobbyist. Someone philosophically opposed to government domination of the health care market would never offer up government as the solution to the problem of the uninsured, like the former governor of Massachusetts did, since the problem of the uninsured was created by government’s involvement in the health care market in the first place.
The federal government does not need an efficient manager. That’s a pipe dream based on the noble but flawed premise that government can be made to operate as a business. It cannot. Business is subject to the forces of free choice, supply and demand, and competition. Can you imagine government subjecting itself to the forces of competition? Can you imagine government permitting us to ignore it?
The government’s biggest sacred cow is the Pentagon. The mere thought of reductions in the growth of defense spending has the Washington careerists screaming bloody murder. Yet military expert after military expert, not connected to the Pentagon and not employed in the defense industry, has told us that austerity will force the government to do what Congress lacks the political courage to do. Stated differently, we will keep spending on bases we don’t need, on planes that sit unused in hangars and on military hardware stored all over the world, and not for any national security interest, but simply because a congressman earmarked it – unless we get serious about our future.
A dollar of military spending is not a dollar of military strength, but it is a dollar into the coffers of those who contribute to congressional campaigns. Which is the greater threat to our national security, an impoverished gaggle of Third World revolutionaries 10,000 miles away, or our national debt? The answer is obvious…..

…..When I arrived in Mexico going on ten years ago, it was a mildly sleepy upper-Third World country, whatever that means—corrupt but not dangerous, not rich but hardly poor, barely middle-class overall and climbing, the mañana thing seldom noticeable, and women pouring into the professions. I parodied the American conception of Mexico as perilous hell-hole because it wasn’t. Not even close.

A new International Climate Court will have the power to compel Western nations to pay ever-larger sums to third-world countries in the name of making reparation for supposed “climate debt”. The Court will have no power over third-world countries. Here and throughout the draft, the West is the sole target. “The process” is now irredeemably anti-Western.

Pat Buchanan‘s new book Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025 is the bluntest and most cogent statement of the truth about the present course of Western civilization that has been seen in American bookstores in many years.
In this book, Pat takes the gloves off and hits the American Left with the Hard Right. He knocks the liberal establishment out of the ring. Everything that real conservatives have privately known to be true for generations is finally aired in this brave and long overdue new book.
Christianity is the foundation of Western civilization. As people of European ancestry abandoned their traditional faith, Western culture began to die. As Western culture began to die, Western civilization began to die. Finally, the people of the West are literally dying out and the Third World is flooding into the West to take our place in our own homelands.
The American Left has become a utopian death cult in the grips of a suicidal ideology like the Shakers. The Baby Boomer elite that was captured by the counterculture in the 1960s has set America on a course to national oblivion: radical multiculturalism, open borders, the welfare state, affirmative action, the obsession with diversity, the embrace of the sick and degenerate “free love movement,” the embrace of abortion and family planning, the embrace of an adversary secular culture that has flatly declared war on Christianity.
As a historian, Pat Buchanan is here to remind us of the awful truth that this sort of progressive worldview and the lifestyle that accompanies it has consequences:
The US Is Fast Becoming a Third World Police State
As a P.T. (often referred to as perpetual traveller, permanent tourist or prior taxpayer), I have travelled to nearly 100 countries. During those travels there has always been one defining moment, upon entry into a country, which shows that the country is what is generally thought of as a “third world country”.
It is the moment when, upon arrival, you are charged a fee to enter the country. The reason generally being that the government of the country has so destroyed the economy and/or they have so little understanding of what creates wealth that they think that the way to make their country prosperous is to charge a fee upon entry rather than allowing people to enter freely and transact, trade and spend their money in the economy. Either that or the government is so desperate for money that it uses this as a significant source of revenue.
They have this in Cambodia, Indonesia, Bolivia and numerous other similar countries. And now, they have it in the US.
The US has long-used “visa application fees” to bilk money from people in countries like Thailand as a way to raise money but now the US has announced that they are going to charge a $5.50 fee to Canadians upon entering the US.
The fee is ludicrous and counterproductive for many reasons. Not least of which is making it five dollars and fifty cents, ensuring that payment of the transaction will take twice as long as normal to make the extra change. Canadians who are one of the only large groups of people still bringing some economic activity into the US will both be turned off by having to pay to enter the US but also by the extra long lines to enter as they make change for this fee.
Not to mention the hilarity of calling it an “inspection fee”. Does this mean that if we would not like to be inspected then we don’t have to pay?

Will America Survive to 2025?? BOOK WARNS OF END
BOOK WARNS OF END Fri Oct 14 2011 07:00:25 ET
**Exclusive**
“As the faith that gave birth to the West is dying in the West, peoples of European descent from the steppes of Russia to the coast of California have begun to die out, as the Third World treks north to claim the estate. The last decade provided corroborating if not conclusive proof that we are in the Indian Summer of our civilization.”
So begins Pat Buchanan in his hardcore work, SUICIDE OF A SUPERPOWER.
“Will America Survive to 2025?”
Buchanan, set for maximum controversy, launches all rockets at introduction “Disintegrating Nation” — and does not let up for 400-plus pages.
“America is disintegrating. The centrifugal forces pulling us apart are growing inexorably. What unites us is dissolving. And this is true of Western Civilization….Meanwhile, the state is failing in its most fundamental duties. It is no longer able to defend our borders, balance our budgets, or win our wars.”

Fred On Everything ~ Slouching Toward Guatamala Reflections on the Impossibility of Government…
God it’s wonderful—really diverting in a macabre sort of way, at least if you have a diseased sense of humor and enough Padre Kino red. Which I do. As I write the world’s only delusional superflower, perennially in love with itself, navel-gazing as narcissistically as ever, ignorant, self-indulgent, gurbling like an insane relative in the attic and fondling electro-trinkets from Japan, is broke. Yes, we see a beautiful dive from the high board, two somersaults and a half-twist, into the Third World. And so richly deserved.
Congress, a collection of whores, con-men, and penny-ante sharpers from East Jesus, Nebraska, ponders the Great Question: Default now, and admit manfully to being the economic lepers everyone else already knows we are? Or raise the debt ceiling, keep spending like a spoiled Swarthmore sophomore with daddy’s credit card, and collapse a bit later?
It’s just lovely. The World’s Greatest Economy holding out the begging bowl to…………………..

”We are the only country in history that ever deliberately changed its ethnic makeup, and history has few examples of ‘diversity’ creating a stable society.”
Richard Lamm, former governor of Colorado“
**********
…“Having made America a bilingual–bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of ‘Victimology’,” Lamm said. “I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra:
“That because immigration has been good for America, it must ALWAYS be good. I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them.”In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. A profound silence swept over the room.
Finally, he said, “Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hansen’s book “MEXIFORNIA.” His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don’t read that book.”There was no applause. A chilling apprehension rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference.
Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Every discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages rip the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness.
Barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation, terror, horse tripping, cock fighting, dog fighting and worse–grow as we celebrate ‘diversity’. American jobs vanish into the Third World as greedy corporations create a Third World in America—take note of California and other states—to date, 20 million illegal aliens and growing, fast.If you look around you, our president and this Congress dismantle America by design.
Call it ‘multi-culturalism’ or ‘diversity’ or ‘one world government’ or ‘globalism’. In the end, it will mean the finish of the United States of America as a free, cohesive, sustainable and functioning society.George Orwell wrote about it in his book, “1984.” In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: “War is peace, “Freedom is slavery,” and “Ignorance is strength.”
Our nation and the future of this great republic are deeply in trouble and worsening fast. An invasion of diseases, clashing cultures, languages, balkanization, mounting environmental dilemmas accelerate by the day.
If this immigration monster isn’t stopped soon, it will rage across the United States like the LA demonstrations that WILL turn violent given more time, and destroy everything in their path, especially the American Dream………………………….

Frosty Wooldridge — Americans Need to Drop Down to the Poverty Levels of the Third World
Zakaria, not an American by birth and didn’t grow up here, somehow enjoys ‘affirmative action’ at Time Magazine to allow him a treatise on our country from his Indian bias.
I wrote a rebuttal and added a bit of a reality check. I’m asking you to write one into Time, too, after you read his piece in the November 1, 2010 issue of Time.
Email address: letters@time.com
Dear Time editors:Re: “Restoring the American Dream,” 11/1/10, Zakaria, Time MagazineAdvertisementFareed Zakaria makes good points, but fails to address the causes of the loss of the American Dream. How about our elected Congress critters outsourcing, offshoring and insourcing millions of American jobs to India, China, Bangladesh, Mexico and elsewhere? How about that $700 billion annual trade debt because we no longer manufacture our own products? How about Congress flooding our country with 70 to 80 million immigrants since 1965—to displace our citizens from jobs, schools, our language and culture—as well as create human population overload like Zakaria’s India? How about our Congress throwing us into unwarranted wars that dragged us into a $12 trillion debt dungeon? What about 41.8 million Americans subsisting on food stamps and 15 million unemployed Americans because Congress won’t secure our borders or stop endless immigration or stop outsourcing jobs?
How about our presidents and Congress members that work against our interests to make sure the American Dream can never be realized by a growing number of Americans? It’s as if our own elected leaders engineered our decline as a civilization. How do we get 41.8 million Americans off food stamps when we import 1.3 million immigrants annually, along with 800,000 illegal migrants and another 900,000 of their children being birthed once they arrived each year—which enjoy welfare at our expense? How can we every catch up to employing our own 15 million unemployed citizens or the 41.8 million living on food stamps? We cannot! The American Dream will be seen as a brief fantasy circa 1960 through 2010.

The Black Market by Harris Kupperman
A few years back, on a trip to some Third World nation, I remember asking a successful businessman why more small businesses are not public. His response was sublime. “I keep two sets of books – one for the government and a real one for myself.
I am not showing anyone the real books. If I have shareholders, what will I show them? I will never get fair value for my business if I show them the fake numbers.” Welcome to the black market.Let’s face it, no one enjoys paying taxes.
In many countries, you have a bifurcation. Large companies can use their clout with the government to get special exemptions from various taxes and regulations. As long as the campaign contribution is smaller than the tax, most companies pay it. Smaller companies are less fortunate. They cannot afford protection and so they chose to operate more in the shadows.
They do not report certain income and they over-report expenses. In some countries, this is so prevalent that it has become an “accepted” practice. In many countries, avoiding taxes and stupid regulations is just part of doing business. How can you blame them? The danger is that this limits the ability of these companies to access the capital markets for debt and particularly for equity funding.
Without growth capital, there is no growth in your economy. Even worse, many of these companies take their unreported profits and deposit them in overseas banks out of the reach of the taxing authority – which further stymies growth. No country wants to create a black market – it forms naturally out of desperation because of bad governance.
Businessmen rarely want to do business in the shadows as there are hidden costs to this sort of business – however, sometimes they have no choice.
