WASHINGTON, D.C., November 15, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Wednesday, President Obama nominated seven judges, including a black homosexual, to the federal judiciary, saying their appointments “ensure that the judiciary resembles the nation it serves.”

WASHINGTON — Justice Clarence Thomas has not asked a question from the bench in more than six years, and he seldom appears in public in Washington, a city he says is full of cynics, smart alecks and people who have agendas rather than convictions.

But he opened up last week in a public interview at the National Archives, talking about his race, his faith and relations among the justices after a term that ended with bitter divisions.

For the most part, Justice Thomas spoke somberly about the weight of history and the burdens of his job. But he allowed himself the occasional bit of rueful humor.

In bygone America, police forces were funded by the community in which they worked. While police abuse always existed in large cities, smaller cities and towns were generally free from police corruption and abuse of power.

Those days are now long gone. Even the smallest town police have been granted federal dollars (to protect us from ‘terrorists!’) to buy new weapons and vehicles. In addition, Feds invite local police to learn the new techniques of surveillance and law enforcement.

Now, police across the country play by their own rules. They will lie, cheat, and steal. They act as ‘Judge, Jury and Executioner’ with impunity. They are paranoid. Citizens are learning that dialing ’911′ for help can get themselves or family members or even their neighbors assaulted and even murdered.

Candidly, I have struggled with this for years — how best to explain why I am a black conservative and why fellow black Americans should join me.I served on a board with an extremely bright black mom. Both of her kids, a boy and a girl, are brilliant; her son received a full scholarship to Yale.This black mom is well-read on “whiny” black liberal authors and philosophers.

I am talking about the majority of black authors you see featured on mainstream TV. They sound extremely intellectual, explaining how white America is still systematically abusing blacks and why more heavily funded government programs are the answer. I feel like screaming at my TV, “Knock it off! Bottom line is you hate white people and are seeking more entitlement government freebies!” Such needy victim rhetoric has nothing to do with, nor does it achieve, real black empowerment. Frankly, these people turn my stomach.

As I said, the black mom is extremely well-read on victimhood-peddling black authors and has never heard of brilliant black conservatives Professor Walter Williams and Dr. Thomas Sowell.Professor Walter E. Williams is an American economist and academic.

He is the John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics at George Mason University, as well as a syndicated columnist.Dr. Thomas Sowell is an American economist, social theorist, political philosopher, and author of 30 books. Dr. Sowell is currently a Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Both these guys are about “real” black empowerment, teaching personal responsibility, education, hard work, and morality — not the standard blacks-are-eternal-victims and white-America-owes-us garbage spouted by black pundits on TV. Thus, you never see Prof. Williams or Dr. Sowell on mainstream TV.

Did Norman Thomas really say that America would not knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of

I personally think the quote is unreliable, but see below – he’s not alone. Norman Thomas is quoted as saying:

Yet the country has grown more and more socialistc and this soft-spoken kindly man of 82 years has planned it that way. “The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

The closest I can come to sourcing that is this article from a 1967 newspaper. The part that’s italicized above does not appear to be Thomas’ words, rather, this article is a puff piece. Now if this stand alone unsourced quote is good enough for you, have at it. It’s not for me. This was all supposedly said in a 1944 speech, so if I don’t have the speech itself, the whole thing, I’d say just find and use something else.

Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas denounced his colleagues’ decision not to hear a case that would have allowed them to establish a clear standard for judging religious displays on government property.

“Today the Court rejects an opportunity to provide clarity to an Establishment Clause jurisprudence in shambles,” Thomas said in an Oct. 31 dissent.

He explained that the Supreme Court’s disjointed “jurisprudence has confounded the lower courts and rendered the constitutionality of displays of religious imagery on government property anyone’s guess.” Thomas’ dissenting opinion responded to the court’s decision to reject consideration of a prohibition on crosses placed along the roadside in Utah to commemorate fallen officers.

The case involved 12-foot-high white crosses placed by the Utah Highway Patrol Association at or near areas where officers had been killed in the line of duty.

American Atheists, Inc. sued Utah officials, claiming that the 13 crosses violated the establishment clause because they bore the symbol of the Utah Highway Patrol and many of them were located on state property.

Homegrown Retired Senior Terrorism?

On Wednesday, the strange news flew across the nation’s wires that four men from Georgia, in their upper-sixties and early-seventies, had been arrested on Tuesday for an alleged plot to attack state and federal officials and buildings. The fantastic story involves Frederick Thomas, 73, of Cleveland, GA, Dan Roberts, 67, of Toccoa, GA, Ray H. Adams, 65, of Toccoa, and Samuel J. Crump, 68, of Toccoa.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), they are accused of planning to procure an unregistered explosive device and a silencer and to manufacture the bio-toxin ricin for use against fellow American citizens, some of whom happen to be state and federal government officials.

To say this strikes me as beyond bizarre is an understatement. What little information we have about these men, much of which is alleged by the FBI, leaves me wondering what the men could possibly have been hoping to achieve if they really did what the feds say they did.

…Authorities said the group intended to use the plot of the novel “Absolved,” written by Mike Vanderboegh, a blogger who has closely followed the botched federal investigation known as “Fast and Furious.” He also runs a whistleblower website called Sipsey Street.

The four listed in the indictment are Thomas; Dan Roberts, 67; Ray Adams, 65; and Samuel Crump, 68. The men live in the north Georgia towns of Cleveland and Toccoa.

Dems want probe of Justice Thomas as health law ruling looms

Twenty House Democrats are demanding a judicial ethics investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas just as the high court is poised to issue a ruling on the healthcare law that could make or break President Obama’s reelection.

The lawmakers on Thursday asked the U.S. Judicial Conference to formally request that the Department of Justice look into Thomas’s failure to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars his wife has received from groups that want the healthcare law repealed. Their letter comes after 75 House Democrats in February asked Thomas to recuse himself from the case following reports that he’d failed to report his wife Virginia’s income since he joined the bench in 1991.

“Due to the simplicity of the disclosure requirements, along with Justice Thomas’s high level of legal training and experience, it is reasonable to infer that his failure to disclose his wife’s income for two decades was willful, and the Judicial Conference has a non-discretionary duty to refer this case to the Department of Justice,” the Democrats wrote in the letter, which was spearheaded by Rep. Louise Slaughter (N.Y.), the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee.

The letter comes just a day after the Obama administration and 26 states challenging the Democrats’ healthcare reform law asked the Supreme Court to take up the case, all but assuring that the high court will render a decision by next summer.

Many legal experts believe the court will end up with a split 5-4 ruling on the law — with Justice Anthony Kennedy filling his customary swing-vote role — so pressure on justices to recuse themselves is only expected to increase.
