For regular viewers of TV talking heads, Eleanor Clift is no stranger. She’s been making the rounds for years, currently working for Newsweek / Daily Beast, and is a regular feature on The McLaughlin Group. It was on the latter program where today’s feature video unfolded, with the venerable Ms. Clift once again tangling with Rich Lowry.
Bill Gives DHS Sec. ‘Virtually Unlimited Discretion to Waive Any Manner of Crimes,’ ICE Council Warns Congress | CNS News

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) entered a letter from law enforcement officials nationwide warning of the dangers of the immigration bill S.744 into the judiciary committee record today.
The letter To Congress from the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Council of the American Federation of Government Employees Affiliated with AFL-CIO warns of the discretionary power the bill gives to “political appointees” and takes away from law enforcers:
“Congress can and must take decisive steps to limit the discretion of political appointees and empower ICE and CBP to perform their respective missions and enforce the laws enacted by Congress. Rather than limiting the power of those political appointees within DHS, S. 744 provides them with nearly unlimited discretion, which will serve only to further cripple the law enforcement missions of these agencies.”

Everybody but the GOPe KNOWS immigration reform guarantees Democrat control for ever « Coach is Right
By Kevin “Coach” Collins
Every thinking American, whether conservative or liberal knows that when the feckless Republicans in the Congress fold and stab us in the back by erasing our borders Democrat Party control of our lives will be assured forever.
The sad truth is that we are reduced to hoping that the horrific terror attack on Boston will defeat the Democrats’ plans to swamp our country with ready- made Democrat voters because there seems to be little reason to hope the Republicans will do so.
Presidential Executive Orders; Constitutional or Criminal?… “When an executive order creates or amends Federal regulations or creates or amends existing law, those orders are illegal and are impeachable offenses. “

…..A common misconception which has been used to excuse the unlawful use of the Executive Order is that every President, including George Washington has used them.
While this is “factually” correct, it is not true that George Washington abused it.
His EO’s were limited to the operation of the Executive Branch and did not ever legislate laws for anyone outside of the government.
However, the most wide reaching violation of the Executive Order came from one of this country’s greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln.
His Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863 was, for certain, noble, just and something long needed and overdue.

Why are states so eager to collect taxes on Internet sales?
In short, because they could grab money from other states.
Heritage legal expert David Addington lays it out:
Like the money-hungry federal government, many state governments have financial and political interests in getting their hands on more and more money to grow their governments. It is not surprising that many of those state governments find out-of-state businesses to be lucrative and politically easy targets for tax legislation.
Addington explains how this would work. Take, for example, a company whose workforce and warehouses are in New Hampshire. This company has no contacts with Illinois other than taking remote sales orders over the Internet.
Is America a Republic or an Empire? | American Clarion
Over the years in this column I have written about the American Empire. I have advocated jettisoning the Empire to save the Republic. This topic has sparked debate and controversy even among the most dedicated readers.
Usually the argument runs like this, “America is not an empire, never has been and never will be,” or “America’s far-flung military deployments are not the garrisoning of an empire it is instead a forward defense of the homeland.”In my most recent column along these lines, aptly entitled, “Republic or Empire?” in several publications, there was spirited debate about whether or not America could be called an empire. Some people seemed to take offense at the very idea.
Pastor Roger Anghis — Do We Really See What Is Happening?
NewsWithViews.com
When we look at what is going on in America today we have to ask the question, “Is anyone really paying attention?” We basically have a two party system that is scattered with 15 or so sub-parties. The only Parties of real influence are the Democrats and the Republicans. The question there is, is there really that much difference between the two? On the surface, they are miles apart but a closer examination shows that there really is not that much difference.
I review the bills that are introduced into Congress weekly. It takes anywhere from an hour to sometimes two and a half hours to review these bills. When I examine these laws that are introduced to Congress you will find that any law that involves raising taxes and implementing more and more regulations on businesses and people in general and bills that nibble away at our Constitutional rights you will find that they come from the Democrat Party 100% of the time. When we see bills that attempt to lower taxes, re-establish Constitution al rights, remove regulations they come from the Republican Party virtually 100% of the time.

The Department of Homeland Security responded Friday to questions from Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., about why the agency was allegedly planning to buy some 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the next five years.
DHS told Whispers it regularly fills all of its goods and services requirements at one time because it’s cheaper for the agency, and that the 1.6 billion number was misleading because the language of DHS’s purchase said it would need “up to” a certain amount.

The nationwide shortage of ammunition has left many police departments scrambling to get their hands on the necessary rounds – with some even bartering among each other.
Meanwhile, Rep. Timothy Huelskamp (R-Kansas) says the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has failed to respond to multiple members of Congress asking why DHS bought more than 1.6 billion rounds in the past year.

Ethanol fight fuels renewed heat between corn and oil industries

A fight between oil giants and corn farmers reached a fever pitch on Wednesday, as the oil industry used a new study to argue that increasing ethanol use in fuel will hurt consumers and the economy.
Groups representing ethanol producers fired back, saying the oil industry was trying to undermine government efforts to reduce reliance on oil-based fuels. Because most U.S. ethanol is made with corn, producers are allied with corn farmers, who enjoy an expanded market and higher prices for their crops because of ethanol demand.
The Congressional Budget Debate Is Just a Sideshow by Ron Paul
Federal spending once again dominated the debate in Washington last week, as House Republicans and Senate Democrats began work on their ten-year budget plans. Contrary to claims, neither party’s budget reduces spending. While the Republican plan increases spending a little less than the Democrat plan, it would still spend $5 trillion in 2023, an almost two trillion dollar increase over this year’s budget.

Of course, these projections of future budgets are meaningless, as a current Congress cannot bind a future one. Therefore, the projected spending for next year is the only part of the budget with any significance. So is there a great gulf between the two parties’ budgets for next year? No.
For fiscal year 2014, the Democrat budget proposes spending $3.7 trillion, while the “radical” Republican budget spends $3.5 trillion!

The 1787 Convention

In 1787, delegates gathered in a Conference of States (not a Constitutional Convention) to discuss problems with interstate commerce. They were given strict instructions by the Congress that they were to meet only for “the sole and express purpose of revising the Articles of Confederation.” Eleven of the twelve states present, specifically instructed their delegates to discuss nothing more than the commerce issue.
Once convened, the delegates of the twelve states, formed a “committee of the whole” (chaired by the elected George Washington, President of the Conference), took a vote, and declared the Articles of Confederation null and void! For five months they debated behind closed doors and emerged with an entirely new form of government. Our 1787 Constitution was the result.

Pelosi: ‘Tax Cuts Are Spending’ March 7, 2013 By Terence P. Jeffrey
(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said today that the government must cut spending, and then explained that: “Tax cuts are spending.”
“Our whole budget is what $3.5 trillion,” Pelosi said at a Capitol Hill press conference. “So, when we talk about reducing spending, we certainly must, and we certainly have–$1.6 trillion in the previous Congress, $1.2 of it in the Budget Control Act.

Part 2 – We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Oaths!
The ruling class doesn’t care about public safety. Having made it very difficult for States and localities to police themselves, having left ordinary citizens with no choice but to protect themselves as best they can, they now try to take our guns away. In fact they blame us and our guns for crime.
This is so wrong that it cannot be an honest mistake. — Sen. Malcolm Wallop, Wyoming
Forget Guns…How About More ‘Congress Control’? (GyG: How Bout Back To Our First Constitution, The Articles of Confederation !!!!!)
Part 1 – A Look Behind the Curtain
Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. - Daniel Webster
Every elected federal official in the U.S. must take an oath of office. The first Congress swore the oath in 1789; it was revised during the Civil War and the current version was enacted in 1884: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
Will Rep. Paul Broun (The “Accidental” Congressman) be Karl Rove’s first ‘unelectable’ target? “”all that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big-bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell.”
…..So what is it? The campaign of Rep. Paul Broun (R) of Georgia, who on Wednesday filed paperwork to run for the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss, could provide clues.
He is exactly the kind of candidate that, in theory, Rove’s group would want to weed out. Ultra-conservative on both social and fiscal matters, Congressman Broun has amassed a reputation for making inflammatory and controversial statements during his time in Congress.
A doctor, he gained national attention last fall when he said at a sportsman’s banquet that “all that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big-bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell.”
