Obama Runs Away from the War on Terrorism By Alan Caruba

“You may not be interested in war, but war may be interested in you.” — Leon TrotskyIf you think about the presidents who we remember and honor the most,

it is those who faced war and rallied the nation to victory. Our first president, George Washington, sustained the Revolutionary War for eight long years against daunting odds, including a Continental Congress that often provided little support for the men under his command that were fighting to create a new, free nation.

By Alan Caruba

Washington’s reputation in war and peace is the reason that the Constitution designates the President as Commander-in-Chief.

He was so highly regarded for his conduct of the Revolution that the Founders concluded that future presidents had to be free to wage war, but only after Congress declared that a state of war existed.America, however, has not formally passed a declaration of war since WWII and then because it had been declared against us first.

“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie — deliberate, contrived and dishonest — but the myth — persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.” – JFK

“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” – Stephen Hawking

For those whose understanding of the world is derived from what their governments and political leaders tell them to believe, and from the mainstream media which regurgitates the government’s views and ideology, the world is left black and white, us vs. them, a simple myth to hold on to. For these people: the economic crisis is over and we are now in a “recovery”; the ‘War on Terror’ is an age-old battle between the forces of good and evil, retribution for the attacks of 9/11, and is designed to battle ‘terrorism’ in every corner of the world; the era of imperialism ended with World War II, and America is not an ‘empire’, but rather a bastion for freedom which spreads democracy around the world; the war against Libya was intended to save innocent lives out of ‘humanitarian’ concerns; we must accept the loss and restriction of our fundamental rights and liberties in order to protect us from terrorists; Barack Obama has brought ‘change’ and is a beacon of ‘hope’; and the death of Osama bin Laden shows that the ‘War on Terror’ is working, and is worthy of going out in the streets to celebrate and cheer!

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV, North says the move shows that “the so-called war on terror has been abandoned by the Obama administration, there’s no doubt about it. We’ve seen the last additional detainee sent to Gitmo. This is proof that we’re no longer going to use Guantanamo as a place to send new detainees.

“There’s still a quandary as to what to do about those who are still there. There’s talk again about moving them to a special prison in Illinois that meets what they call super max standards. I would expect that we’re going to see a push to do that again by the Obama administration just like they did two years ago.

There are a number of problems with this administration’s conduct of the War on Terror in general, and with its drone campaign in particular. But the elimination of Anwar Al-Awlaki — an al-Qaeda militant with a demonstrated commitment to the destruction of the United States who happened to have been born in New Mexico — is not one of them.

End the war on terror and save billions…

As we debate whether the two parties can ever come together and get things done, here’s something President Obama could probably do by himself that would be a signal accomplishment of his presidency: End the war on terror. Or, more realistically, start planning and preparing the country for phasing it out.

Obama’s expansion of the war on terror

he Washington Post reports that the United States has set up a network of air bases across Africa where unarmed spy planes diguised as private turbo-prop aircraft surveil potential terrorist hideouts across a wide swath of the continent:

The operations have intensified in recent months, part of a growing shadow war against al-Qaeda affiliates and other militant groups. The surveillance is overseen by U.S. Special Operations forces but relies heavily on private military contractors and support from African troops.

The surveillance underscores how Special Operations forces, which have played an outsize role in the Obama administration’s national security strategy, are working clandestinely all over the globe, not just in war zones. The lightly equipped commando units train foreign security forces and perform aid missions, but they also include teams dedicated to tracking and killing terrorism suspects.

…..It is expected by some experts that this new war against the American Citizen will start out as psyops and low intensity warfare, then progressing to full scale “in the streets”, house to house combat until the Sheeple are completely disarmed and subjugated, unless the Shadow Govt is exposed and stopped before it can do so, especially if those in its ranks rebel in mass which is more likely than not.

The Shadow Govt officials fear this possibility and are making provisions to import foreign troops to assist, to be explained and rationalized as training exercises.

If the Shadow Govt is NOT planning for a full spectrum war inside the USA against the Sheeple, why then have they activated Northcom, created Homeland Security as a Stasi/Gestapo type organization, why the extreme military buildup inside the USA, the militarization of the police, the passage of unConstitutional draconian laws such as the Patriot Acts, the Military Commissions Act, the NDAA 2012, and many more? Why the onslaught against all American freedoms from all sides? So far the Shadow Govt has not justified any of these insane, criminal measures other than to say they are necessary to protect us from FOREIGN TERRORIST, and now the newly arising Domestic or potential or suspected Domestic Terrorists (which darn near includes most law abiding Americans but only exists in their imaginations).

Amidst the flood of propaganda these days on behalf of what must be the most breathtaking expansion of Presidential power since Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal, especially glaring are the assertions of self-styled “conservative” media personalities that nothing is amiss, because: (i) the President is “Commander in Chief;” (ii) in that capacity he supposedly enjoys “inherent” power to take whatever actions he may deem necessary to protect this country from “terrorism;” (iii) assertion of this Presidential power is especially vital now, with this country engaged in a “war on terror;” and (iv) in any event, Congress has broadly authorized the President to use “force” in “the war on terror.” None of these contentions can withstand even cursory scrutiny.

English: Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth Presid...

English: Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States. Latviešu: Abrahams Linkolns, sešpadsmitais ASV prezidents. Српски / Srpski: Абрахам Линколн, шеснаести председник Сједињених Америчких Држава. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

1. The Constitution does designate the President as “Commander in Chief.” Article II, Section 2, Clause 1. Not, however, as “Commander in Chief” of the country as a whole, with the plenary powers of some Fuhrer or Duce, but only as “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.” As will be explained below, in this capacity the President exercises, not some limitless “inherent” power, but largely a circumscribed and contingent authority dependent upon mandates from Congress.

2. Merely labeling some situation a “war” cannot call the President’s rightful powers as “Commander in Chief” into operation, let alone boundlessly expand those powers.

The so-called “war on terror” is not the unique example of such martial political hyperbole bombarding this country today. Simultaneously, Americans are exhorted to acquiesce in enlarged governmental powers to fight “the war on crime,” “the war on drugs,” “the war on poverty,” and even “the war on obesity.” Does anyone believe, though, that under color of (say) waging a “war on obesity” the President could declare McDonald’s employees “enemy combatants” and its fatty foods “weapons of mass destruction,” could deploy the Armed Forces to occupy its restaurants, or could even tap its phones without submitting to judicial review?

Prison Planet.com » Experts Agree: War On Terror Is A Racket, CIA And Wall Street Are Financed By Global Drug Trade

April 25, 2012 2 comments

The Obama administration has declared that the “War on Terror” is officially over, but this move only signifies a change in public terminology, not official U.S. policy.

The war on terror’s secret objectives will continue to be pursued regardless of the new public language that will be used by U.S. officials to keep selling the idea of perpetual warfare to the American people and the rest of the world.

One of the main objectives of the falsely advertised “War on Terror,” was to allow U.S. government agencies and international banks to reap the profits from the global drug trade while appearing noble and lawful. Despite the brand change, the war on terror will still be waged in order to preserve the global drug economy. The continuation of covert CIA and military operations in the heroin fields of Afghanistan is a certainty.

Wrong Ideas Are Sinking America by Michael S. Rozeff

The beliefs of America’s leaders are deeply ingrained. They have been recruited and made leaders because they have those beliefs and hold them quite inflexibly. For example, American leaders believe in making wars conducted by the state, including such military wars as Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, and such social wars as the war on drugs and the war on poverty. In this belief, America’s leaders are supported by large numbers of Americans, enough so that they can institute and carry on these wars.

Prison Planet.com » Ron Paul: The NDAA Repeals More Rights

December 27, 2011 4 comments

Little by little, in the name of fighting terrorism, our Bill of Rights is being repealed. The 4th amendment has been rendered toothless by the PATRIOT Act. No more can we truly feel secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects when now there is an exception that fits nearly any excuse for our government to search and seize our property.

Barack Obama - NDAA Legacy

Of course, the vast majority of Americans may say “I’m not a terrorist, so I have no reason to worry.” However, innocent people are wrongly accused all the time. The Bill of Rights is there precisely because the founders wanted to set a very high bar for the government to overcome in order to deprive an individual of life or liberty. To lower that bar is to endanger everyone. When the bar is low enough to include political enemies, our descent into totalitarianism is virtually assured.

With the enactment of the NDAA, Americans suspected by the President of having committed a “belligerent act” may be apprehended by the military and detained without recitation of charges and without access to an attorney until such time as the President decides that the “War on Terror” is over.

Majorities in both chambers of Congress voted in favor of granting the President this autocratic authority. In the Senate, only 13 members of that body stood up to defend the constitutionally protected civil liberties of Americans. In the House of Representatives, 283 of the people’s representatives violated their oath of office and voted to pass this legislation.

Clearly Senator Obama, and later Candidate Obama, made it abundantly clear that the indefinite detention of detainees at Guantanamo Bay without the due process of a trial is wrong on all grounds – legal, ethical, and moral. He even goes as far as to say that it works against us in our war on terror.

Now, let’s compare that to what has just happened recently…

America’s ruling class lost the “War on Terror.” During the decade that began on September 11, 2001, the U.S. government‘s combat operations have resulted in some 6,000 Americans killed and 30,000 crippled, caused hundreds of thousands of foreign casualties, and spent—depending on various estimates of direct and indirect costs—somewhere between 2 and 3 trillion dollars. But nothing our rulers did post-9/11 eliminated the threat from terrorists or made the world significantly less dangerous. Rather, ever-bigger government imposed unprecedented restrictions on the American people and became the arbiter of prosperity for its cronies, as well as the manager of permanent austerity for the rest. Although in 2001 many referred to the United States as “the world’s only superpower,” ten years later the near-universal perception of America is that of a nation declining, perhaps irreversibly. This decade convinced a majority of Americans that the future would be worse than the past and that there is nothing to be done about it. This is the “new normal.” How did this happen?

Once the war on terror’s fiercest critic, Obama has become its deadliest practitioner.

We are in a long war against radical Islamic terrorism. The struggle seems almost similar to the on-again/off-again ordeals of the past — such as the French-English Hundred Years War of the 14th and 15th centuries, or the Thirty Years War between Catholics and Protestants in the 17th century.

In these kinds of drawn-out conflicts, final victory will go to the side that responds best to new challenges. And we’ve seen a lot of those since 9/11, when the United States was caught unaware and apparently ill-equipped to face the threat of radical Islamic terrorists hijacking our passenger jets.

Here are two facts: (1) Anwar al-Awlaki is an American citizen and an al-Qaeda propagandist. (2) Pres. Barack Obama proposes to assassinate him. Between the first fact and the second falls the shadow.

The Awlaki case has led many conservatives into dangerous error, as has the War on Terror more generally. That conservatives are for the most part either offering mute consent or cheering as the Obama administration draws up a list of U.S. citizens to be assassinated suggests not only that have we gone awry in our thinking about national security, limitations on state power, and the role of the president in our republic, but also that we still do not understand all of the implications of our country’s confrontation with Islamic radicalism. The trauma of 9/11 has deposited far too much emotional residue upon our thinking, and the Awlaki case provides occasion for a necessary scouring. Contra present conservative dogma, the Constitution has relatively little to say about the role of the president in matters of what we now call national security, which is not synonymous with combat operations. What the Constitution says is this: “The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.” That is all. Upon this sandy foundation, conservative security and legal thinkers have constructed a fortress of a presidency that is nearly unlimited or actually unlimited in its power to define and pursue national-security objectives. But a commander-in-chief is not a freelance warlord, and his titular powers do not extend over everything that touches upon national security.

Is The War On Terror A Hoax?

September 30, 2011 Leave a comment

In the past decade, Washington has killed, maimed, dislocated, and made widows and orphans millions of Muslims in six countries, all in the name of the “war on terror.” Washington’s attacks on the countries constitute naked aggression and impact primarily civilian populations and infrastructure and, thereby, constitute war crimes under law. Nazis were executed precisely for what Washington is doing today.

Moreover the wars and military attacks have cost American taxpayers in out-of-pocket and already-incurred future costs at least $4,000 billion dollars–one third of the accumulated public debt–resulting in a US deficit crisis that threatens the social safety net, the value of the US dollar and its reserve currency role, while enriching beyond all previous history the military/security complex and its apologists.

Perhaps the highest cost of Washington’s “war on terror” has been paid by the US Constitution and civil liberties. Any US citizen that Washington accuses is deprived of all legal and constitutional rights. The Bush-Cheney-Obama regimes have overturned humanity’s greatest achievement–the accountability of government to law.

If we look around for the terror that the police state and a decade of war has allegedly protected us from, the terror is hard to find. Except for 9/11 itself, assuming we accept the government’s improbable conspiracy theory explanation, there have been no terror attacks on the US. Indeed, as RT pointed out………………………….

Chuck Baldwin — War On Terror Or War On Freedom?

September 22, 2011 1 comment

…..To refresh reader’s minds regarding how Americans have been labeled, profiled, and denigrated as “terrorists” because of their religious or political beliefs, please peruse the material on this web page.

Fortunately, it does appear that the combination of an emerging police state and a declining economy that has resulted from this “war on terror” is finally starting to catch the attention of the American people. According to a Brooking Institution report, “Six in ten Americans believe that that the United States weakened its economy by overspending in its responses to the 9/11 attacks. In particular, respondents felt this was especially true of the U.S. mission in Iraq. Two out of three Americans perceive that over the decade since 9/11, U.S. power and influence in the world has declined.”

A Rasmussen report further revealed, “As with the recent turmoil in Egypt, most Americans (67%) say the United States should leave the situation in the Arab countries alone.”

Beyond that, “A Zogby poll conducted in August 2007 found that 51% of Americans want Congress to probe Bush/Cheney regarding the 9/11 attacks, two-thirds (67%) of Americans say the 9/11 Commission should have investigated the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7.”

See the BlacklistedNews.com report containing the above survey results and more.

The LA Times is right to question what Americans are getting for their $75 billion a year contribution to the “war on terror.” Some could even argue–with convincing data–that the “war on terror” is in reality a “war on freedom.”…………

Within hours of Norway’s deadly bomb and gun attacks claiming at least 91 victims it has become clear that the horror was perpetrated by a Norwegian loner with rightwing Christian fundamentalist affiliations.

Yet President Barack Obama reacted immediately to the news of the atrocity to insinuate an Islamic connection and to justify America’s war on terror.

Obama spoke on Friday while hosting New Zealand Prime Minister John Key in the White House.

The US President said of the attacks: “It’s a reminder that the entire international community has a stake in preventing this kind of terror from occurring, and that we have to work co-operatively together both on intelligence and in terms of prevention of these kinds of horrible attacks.”

Prime Minister Key added: “If it is an act of global terrorism I think it shows that no country, large or small, is immune from that risk, and that is why New Zealand plays its part in Afghanistan as we try and join others like the United States in making the world a safer place,” he said.

On Friday evening local time, 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik was captured by police moments after he went on a two-hour shooting rampage at a youth summer camp, killing at least 84 people, most of whom were aged between 14 and 18.

Hundreds of teenagers had gathered on the island of Otoeya, about 20 miles northwest of the capital, Oslo, for an annual summer camp organised by the Scandinavian country’s ruling Labour party.

Six-foot blond-haired Breivik was heavily armed and dressed as a policeman when he………………

Isn’t it ironic, when liberals kill they are able to pocket their pride and intellectual superiority and finally celebrate the war against terrorism — “by killing a terrorist” — “the terrorist.”

It reminds me of an Ann Coulter quote; “Here the country had finally given liberals a war against fundamentalism and they didn’t want to fight it. They would have, except it would put them on the same side as the United States.”

Do the liberals realize that they have now crossed over to our side in rooting for the US to win in the war on terrorism — How can they stand it, I bet they feel dirty.

Isn’t it ironic that everything that the Bush administration had put in to place to protect and defend the US is coming full circle…under a liberal president. The Patriot Act, Gitmo, and no civil trials for terrorists…all previously denounced by then candidate obama.

In the course of a discussion about the new Terror Alert System, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) makes it very clear that Attorney General Holder and the Obama administration are NOT acting upon legal evidence to prosecute CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations)despite its intimate commection with Islamic terrorist operatives and subversive factions.

To date, the administration has offered no serious or adequate explanation for what Rep. King calls being blatantly remiss in our national responsibility for aggressively prosecuting the war against terrorism.

Wake-Up Call The people of all nations, having become convinced of the inability of leaders and know-it-all “arbiters of everything” to fulfill their promises, will do more than just question authority, they will defy it. The seeds of revolution will be sown….

December 29, 2010 Leave a comment

KINGSTON, NY, 28 December 2010 — After the tumultuous years of the Great Recession, a battered people may wish that 2011 will bring a return to kinder, gentler times.  But that is not what we are predicting:

1.  Wake-Up Call  The people of all nations, having become convinced of the inability of leaders and know-it-all “arbiters of everything” to fulfill their promises, will do more than just question authority, they will defy it.  The seeds of revolution will be sown….

2.  Crack-Up 2011  In 2011, with the bailout funds and arsenal of other schemes to prop up the economy depleted, teetering economies will collapse, currency wars will ensue, trade barriers will be erected, economic unions will splinter, and the onset of the “Greatest Depression” (a trend we forecasted before the massive bailouts existed) will be recognized by everyone….

3.  Screw the People  As times get even tougher and people get even poorer, the “authorities” will intensify their efforts to extract the funds needed to meet fiscal obligations.  While there will be variations on the theme, the governments’ song will be the same: cut what you give, raise what you take….

9/11: Nine Years Later, We Still Won’t Say Who Hit Us

September 11, 2010 Leave a comment

9/11/01 will remain one of the worst days in American history. Along with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, the date of September 11th will not be forgotten by Americans who lived through that awful day.Yet, it must be noted; nine years later we still will not define those responsible. I do not support any conspiracy theory governments are too incompetent to carry out any conspiracy, but it must be said that nobody in power correctly identifies our enemy and his nature.

President Bush called them “evil-doers”, and they were that. President Obama called them the forces of intolerance, and they were that, too. Yet, has anyone in power spoken the truth about the global jihad being waged against the West? Why will no person in power deign to tell us the truth: the primitives from the Muslim Middle East are no longer content to murder their own innocents, now they must kill us?

The person who throws acid in the face of an Afghan girl for daring to learn is the same Neanderthal who would gladly murder 3,000 Americans on our streets. This is order versus chaos and the West always represents order. If the backwards governments of the Middle East excepting Israel, which is a shining outpost of democracy stifle personal development, and their cultures turn out sexually repressed throat-cutters, then the world has a big problem. Not admitting that their culture is poison is a part of that problem.

The so-called “War on Terror” is a farce, because terror is a weapon but not an enemy. It is like declaring war against tear-gas. Or poverty, or drugs. Like drugs in America, terrorism is a tactic to bring meaning to the most meaningless people on earth. This September 11th we must remember…
