Then, a decade later, the next group of optimistic reformers comes forward with this same promise: “The systems can be reformed if we just act now.” Nobody believes them. Nobody should. If the programs really can be reformed “if we act now,” then the previous warnings were mere scaremongering. There really was no hurry. So, Congress asks rhetorically: “Why should we believe that we need to hurry now?” Result: the systems never get reformed. Congress kicks the can.

The federal government really is headed for default. The numbers don’t lie. This fact produces pessimism in some circles. If our forebears were under the same secularist strictures seen today, the early West would have never escaped mediocrity.

Government Increasingly Set as Only Source of “True Knowledge”

An astounding transformation in the concept of truth has occurred the last few decades in America. No longer are statements or ideas accepted simply on their soundness or logical consistency. In fact, logic often has no impact upon an idea’s popularity. Increasingly, an idea needs official government backing before it is deemed “true.” This change bodes extreme danger for the future of our democracy.

How exactly this change is occurring is a fascinating question. Also, the demise of the liberal arts teaching model has played a prominent role. This metamorphosis was achieved not by accident but by systematic attack upon the West’s institutions. Further, wholesale prostitution of the journalistic profession made these facts easy to obscure. We are left with an echo-chamber repeating the worst of progressive ideas while a complicit media beds down like the Octomom in procreative mode with leftist politicos.

Ynet reports that an advisor of Bibi Netanyahu has suggested that the world starve Iran into submission: Iran’s citizens should be starved in order to curb Tehran’s nuclear program, officials in Jerusalem said Wednesday ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming trip to Washington.

“North Korea is halting its nuclear program in order to receive aid in food, and this is what should be done with Iran as well,” one unnamed official said. “Suffocating sanctions could lead to a grave economic situation in Iran and to a shortage of food,” the source said. “This would force the regime to consider whether the nuclear adventure is worthwhile, while the Persian people have nothing to eat and may rise up as was the case in Syria, Tunisia and other Arab states.”

“The Western world led by the United States must implement stifling sanctions at this time already, rather than wait or hesitate,” the official said. “In order to suffocate Iran economically and diplomatically and lead the regime there to a hopeless situation, this must be done now, without delay.”While it appears true that North Korea has agreed to suspend uranium enrichment and announced a moratorium on nuclear tests, it has not cancelled or ended its nuclear program as the Israeli official says. In fact, while the U.S. welcomed the announcement, it said it said it was “limited.”

As for starvation, it has been a North Korean fact of life for two decades or more. Chances are this change of policy has a lot more to do with a new leader taking over the country, than starvation proving an effective strategic tool. Besides, North Korea has entered into such talks before and then deserted them only to resume enrichment and testing. So gloating over this development is premature until we see whether it will produce long-term results.

Besides being a massive violation of international law, starvation as a tactic simply doesn’t work. Anyone remember the hundreds of thousands of children dying of malnutrition in Saddam’s Iraq? That worked pretty well there, didn’t it?

U.S. sanctions on Iran are “acts of war.” The Iranian government, which views the sanctions, along with assassinations of its nuclear scientists and belligerent rhetoric from Washington, as precursors to “regime change,” is seeking to obtain nuclear weapons “as a deterrent to foreign intervention.” War could occur at any moment, and the only way to avert it with any certainty is for “Western powers [to] imagine how the situation looks from Tehran.”

This may sound like a Ron Paul stump speech. But in fact, it is the essence of a recentBloomberg article by Vali Nasr, a Middle East expert with contacts in the government of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameni. Nasr’s piece, says Robert Wright of the Atlantic, vindicates the Texas Republican’s “sheer conjecture” about Iran’s interpretation of Western actions as “acts of war.”

Paul’s “conjecture,” of course, was based on a simple understanding of human nature. If Oceania routinely threatens Eastasia and begins punishing it, the Eastasian people and their government are not going to sit idly by and allow their country to be destroyed. They will fight back. Then Oceania will escalate the conflict further, Eastasia will respond in kind, and so on, until a full-scale war is under way.

Defeating the West Via the Womb – the Islamic Invasion (Scary Video)

While the citizens of Western civilizations have been preoccupied with their own selfish interests, those of the Islamic world have been busy populating a world their children and grandchildren will control. In America, Canada, and Europe, the citizens have been limiting the number of children in their families. Personally, I believe the reasons they chose to limit the number of their offspring are purely selfish.

Women want to have a career, and that is difficult to do if they are having children every 2 or 3 years. As for the men, they have bought into the idea that they will never be able to make enough money to support more than 1 or 2 children. Then there is the desire to put off having a family until they have made it, but in a world where everyone is trying to keep up with each other, no one really ever makes it. Regardless the excuses given, this behavior has led to the citizens of the West reproducing at a rate of about 1.8 per family, which is not even close to the reproduction rate of immigrants.

I could also go on and on as to the methods women in the West use to limit the number of their children, but this post is not about the methods of birth control used to achieve their goal. No, as you will learn from the video below, this column is about the devastating consequences we must now face because of their decisions.

The result of such selfish decisions by Western civilizations as a whole, is the capitulation of their children’s freedom to control their own lives in the future. Destroying American military positions in the Middle East is the most effective method to get the “Great Satan” to abandon the region, Iran now believes.

“The Islamic Awakening in the region has overthrown many of the heads of states who were puppets of the West,” according to a recent analysis by the Mahramaneh online website, which is close to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “It is simple-minded for us to assume that America and the West in general would sit by and forget about devising new conspiracies for derailing and taking control of the revolutions.”

Therefore, the analysis concludes, an America weakened by economic and military crises makes preemptive assaults on U.S. targets all the more inviting.

The radicals ruling Iran have long believed that due to internal U.S. problems, America can no longer sustain its activities in the Middle East and is bound to pack up and leave eventually. Now these radicals believe that they could attack American forces in the region, starting a regional war with America, and have a good chance at winning it.

They further believe that by initiating such a war, not only will they further influence the Islamic movement in the region, but they will come out as the leaders of this movement worldwide.

“Evidently what America and the West are currently pursuing,” the analysis says, “is, in the first place, the veering of the populist revolutions toward their large Middle East project (Western-style governments), and in case that project fails, they will do everything in their power to start a religious war among the Muslims; a Sunni-Shia war would be their choice.”

Governor Perry’s Islam Connection

The news of Governor Rick Perry jumping into the Republican nomination race for president released a media tsunami that assaulted my brain. In no time at all, people came up with a long list of negatives about him. In a democracy, honest and thorough scrutiny of anyone’s records seeking a public office is not only the prerogative of the electorate, but its duty.

Being a lifelong critic of Islam, red flags popped up in my head at Perry’s purported cozy relationship with Islam and prompted me to look very closely at the governor’s record on this particular issue and at this specific time.

The nuggets of the Muslim history curriculum Perry helped coordinate in Texas are summarized below. It says:

1. Countries of Western Civilization have secular governments, which means great toleration of cultural and religious differences.

2. Countries of Islamic Civilization for the most part either have religiously dominated governments or demands to make them more religious, which means less toleration of cultural and religious differences.

3. Muslims often lack respect for Western traditions and points of view. The Muslim relationship to the West is colored by the belief that Western beliefs [whether Christian or atheist] are defective and therefore inferior to Islam.

No matter how I tried, I couldn’t reach the conclusion that this inclusion promotes Islam or is pro-Sharia. It seems that the mere fact that Islam is included in the curriculum represents supporting it.

And with regard to the concern that the education curriculum Perry promoted is pro-Arab and against Israel, the evidence is exactly the opposite. The lesson on Israel reads:

Learning Something from the Streets?

Thousands of pages have already been written in explication of the British rioting and (quite lesser incidence of) American flash mobbing. If one combines these analyses with direct news accounts, op-eds, Youtube confessionals, and official government pronouncements describing constantly changing strategies, I think one can draw three disinterested conclusions.

1. Material well-being is now defined in relative rather than absolute terms. That is, poverty means lacking the opportunities afforded the 21st-century upper middle classes, not in being deprived, in a Dickensian sense, of food (obesity, not hunger, is a Western epidemic), shelter, hot water, or access to transportation.

2. There is a natural assumption that inequality is attributable to oppression of some sort, rather than luck, fate, circumstances of birth, hard work, education, and all the multitude of complex factors that determine that a few work for $200 an hour and far more earn $20 or less. That someone appears more fortunate ipso facto seems somewhat unfair, without much reflection about the unique circumstances that bestow such advantages (or the unfairness of nature herself in blessing only some with talent or good health), as if the emergency-room surgeon or nuclear-plant engineer was allotted such privileged employment rather than sacrificed to earn it.

3. There is a general expectation that the better-off, or even the middle class, as well as government and society at large, are either unable or unwilling to defend their values and accomplishments — or even to demonstrate much belief in their own innate good. This seems to be well known to the miscreant offenders who have little fear and less respect for “authority.” Perhaps it is because we in the West have ruined our education system and most of our youth are thus amnesiac, with no knowledge of past conditions or of the work and bequests of prior, far more deprived generations. Perhaps it is because our ethos frowns on rewarding good behavior and punishing bad — not that we can define either very easily these days. So when rioters hit the British streets, the ruling classes and technocratic elite debate over whether non-lethal force such as plastic bullets and water cannon could be seen as excessive, and an aristocracy wonders out loud whether society itself is to blame for the torching of a food market. (One’s physical proximity to the mayhem often calibrates such abstract speculations).

Very few Westerners proudly say that their social, political, and economic system has given untold numbers untold material wealth unimagined not just a century but even two decades ago, as well as a level of freedom of expression, security of the person, and consumer indulgence that would seem staggering to most non-Westerners today. Instead, the more fortunate classes adopt a therapeutic sense of publicly expressed guilt that seems rightly phony to the dispossessed, and is seen by themselves as a sort of medieval penance, an abstract caring that justifies their own concrete and rather segregated enjoyment of the good life. As for the law, it is too often a construct predicated on fluid social, race, and class considerations, and thus — whether in enforcing immigration statutes or arresting and trying hordes of attackers — not so easily applied. In general the misdemeanor of the law-abiding citizen is more of a target than the felony of the miscreant — the latter always being a money-losing and sometimes far more dangerous enterprise.

To start to address these pathologies would in the short term make things worse, since the transformation from state dependence to self-reliance and a change from a [blank]-studies curriculum to a classically defined menu of basic math, science, language, literature, history, etc. would provoke a level of social disruption and anger that few politicians would be willing to endure. (The problem is not really going from a separatist salad bowl to a unifying melting pot, but rather that so few people these days know much about a common culture and have the expertise and confidence to teach anyone its history and protocols.)

A final note: Furor often arises not over draconian cuts to entitlements per se, but over suggested cuts to the expansion of subsidies, and the most aggrieved at such cutbacks are not always just the recipients but also the worried state stewards who administer and are invested in the system of state support.

Reports of America’s death are greatly exaggerated

A number of influential thinkers had concluded that the era of U.S. dominance was coming to an end. The military was overstretched, debt was overwhelming, the East’s new economies were taking over and no one was listening to the Yanks.

A few things should be kept in mind. First, pay attention to what happened when markets plummeted Thursday: Precious metals, the euro and the loonie also tumbled as investors fled to the safety of U.S. Treasury securities.

The greenback remains the world’s haven. Despite two years of deliberate currency devaluation (and more to come), the U.S. dollar remains the preferred currency of reserve, exchange, account and savings – not because it’s stable but because there’s nothing else on the horizon. Countries have snapped up all the Brazilian real securities they can find, China’s yuan isn’t trusted and the euro has lost whatever reputation it had.

Second, note that Washington’s debt emergency was not a real event created by economic circumstances but a political event created by a partisan showdown. The U.S. debt burden would be eliminated almost immediately if Congress would implement tax measures of the sort that Canada and most Western countries have. The fact that Congress won’t do so is deeply damaging to the U.S. economy and its citizens’ livelihood, but it’s not inevitably related to America’s standing in the world.

And third, ignore those tales of military decline. Yes, Afghanistan and Iraq were either failures or break-evens, but so were the first three big wars the U.S. fought after the Second World War. Yes, military spending is being slashed, but only to mid-2000s levels, still giving the U.S. more force than all other major armies combined.

Whereas the police are required to respond to charges by questioning the accused, they are not supposed to make a public spectacle of him in order to create the impression that he is guilty before he is even charged. Yet DSK was arrested aboard an airliner as it was about to depart for France and portrayed by the police as a fleeing criminal. Photos were released of him in handcuffs and stripped of his business attire.

The judge refused bail to one of the West’s most high profile persons on the basis of the prosecutor’s statement that DSK would flee the country and hide out abroad. All of this quickly was passed to reporters, who obliged the prosecutors and police by portraying DSK as obviously guilty as he was apprehended fleeing from the country.

The police even planted the story that DSK was in such a hurry to flee that he left behind his cell phone and that that is how they found him. This was a ball-faced lie. The fact of the matter is that when DSK arrived at the airport, he discovered that he had left his cell phone and called the hotel, the scene of the alleged crime, to ask that it be retrieved and brought to him at the airport. When the police boarded his flight, he asked them, “Did you bring my cell phone.” He had no idea the police were there to detain him for questioning.

As the world (and, in particular, the West) nervously follows the course of events in Egypt now that President Hosni Mubarak has been forced out of office, a side-skirmish has broken out among conservatives regarding Glenn Beck’s recent claims that the Egyptian revolution is being driven by an alliance of Islamists and leftists, with the ultimate goal of creating a network of radicalized, Islamist-controlled nations throughout the Middle East (and beyond).

Beck’s recent broadcasts have polarized many on the right, and (predictably) drawn condescending disdain from the left.

It is not the intent of this article to examine Beck’s claims or the controversy surrounding them. Rather, I think it’s important that we understand, in a sober and rational way, that there are indeed some on the left – influential, respectable people – who do genuinely believe that terrorists should be allowed to take over in countries like Egypt………….

Islam and the West

It is certainly time that the West considered systematically whether it has irreconcilable differences with Islam. The belligerence of many Islamic spokesmen and the unassimilable quality of many Muslim immigrants in the West, as well as the spectacular terrorist provocations of extreme Islamic groups, make this a very legitimate question.

But it is not so easy to answer. Some passages of the Koran, and some of Muhammad’s more purposeful remarks, certainly incite the inference that mortal conflict is inevitable, an impression heightened by the neurotic obsession of a great many Muslims with the red herring of Israel. It is hard for Westerners to know what to make of Islam. It speaks through an infinite number of clerical and secular leaders, and in a range of vocabularies from fraternal to genocidally hostile.Muhammad was allegedly visited by the versatile Archangel Gabriel in 610, and told to found Islam. After twelve years, Muhammad had only 150 followers, but decamped to the Jewish oasis of Yathrib, seized control of it, renamed it Medina, set up the first mosque, and went forth to conquer Arabia. Unlike Jesus, or the contemplative and sedentary Gautama, founder of Buddhism,

Muhammad was a military leader who advanced by fire and sword and told his followers to emulate him. They established Sharia, a totalitarian legal system of organizing of society, directed by clerics and going far beyond what even the most pious and fervent Westerner would consider the province of religion. Arab Islam surged westwards across Africa and into Spain, and then into France, before being repulsed by Charles Martel Charlemagne’s grandfather at Tours in 732.To the history-minded, including many Arabs, the Arab world has been in retreat for the 13 following centuries, which may explain some of the militancy of Arab extremists.

Five years before the 9/11 attacks, al-Qaida declared war on America, the West, Christians and Jews – and virtually no one noticed.

Now, a longtime observer of Islam is warning that a “war declaration” of potentially much greater significance has been made.

The Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Muhammad Badi, who was elected only months ago, has “endorsed anti-American Jihad and pretty much every element in the al-Qaida ideology book,” writes Barry Rubin, author and director of the Global Research in International Affairs Center and editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs Journal.

I am dismayed at the lack of understanding of our Western Civilization and efforts to preserve it. It is under attack, being destroyed piecemeal and in detail by “boring Progressive termites” [as Kupelian refers to them]. There is overall wide apathy in society, and a failure to understand the difference between Conservative and Libertarian. There is also a failure to stand by one’s beliefs for fear of being called names like “bigot,” and “hater,” or worse. The name-callers confuse their emotionalism for true reason, intellect and morality.

Most of the present ignorance stems, in my opinion, from a hole in our formal education regarding the historical, philosophical, and religious underpinnings of Western Civilization. Indeed, many Progressives are hell-bent to bury Western Civilization and its foundations the same way the Scipio Africanus burned, buried, and salted Carthage.I regret that more than a few in fashionable society [young and old] chooses to treat me, or other like-thinkers, as they would the Taliban or some other anti-homosexual zealot. They do so because I oppose the destruction of marriage as a Godly covenant solely between one man and one woman for the purpose of family. But, I neither stone homosexuals [or other minorities] to death, nor do I cut off the noses and ears of the unfaithful. I treat women with respect as I do all men, homosexual or not. I have lost friends to AIDS, and I pray for those who struggle with their identity. I am simply opposed to this “red herring” proposal.

According to another report, the loading of fuel into the reactor “would henceforth make the Bushehr facility qualified as an operational nuclear power plant.”
