Game warden **Chang said it was unlikely that a treed lion would descend with dogs prowling beneath it, and that if it did, the dogs would have given instant chase, driving the lion away from Arteaga.

“He said the mountain lion ran toward him, but I don’t believe the story,” Chang said. “A treed lion is not going anywhere, because it’s safe. Usually, lion behavior is to stay up the tree until the dogs are gone. So I think that’s when he went back and got the gun (a semi-automatic Ruger 10/22 rifle with a large scope) and shot it.”**
