Pat Caddell, furious over ‘hypocrites’ in the White House, unloads on Obama

October 14, 2010 2 comments

Veteran Democratic operative Pat Caddell is unloading on the White House, saying he’s had enough with the president whose “hypocrisy” on campaign finance “is just mind-blowing.”

President Obama has made a point while campaigning to call out conservative-leaning groups for hurting the integrity of elections by not voluntarily disclosing donors. Caddell says Obama has no room to talk.“My problem with Obama started the day he blew up public financing of presidential campaigns,” Caddell said in an interview with The Daily Caller.

“He’s the man whose done the most to destroy whatever integrity there was in campaign financing.”Obama declined public funding of his presidential campaign in 2008.The administration’s attacks, Caddell said, on groups like the Chamber of Commerce and donors like the conservative Koch brothers reek of McCarthyism.“I was the youngest person on Richard Nixon’s enemies list. I take this stuff seriously. What they’re doing is Nixonian – it’s McCarthyite,” he said.

Barack Obama’s dangerous rhetoric

October 14, 2010 2 comments

President Barack Obama makes legitimate, mainstream arguments when he says it is dangerous for millions of dollars in untraceable funds to be used to fund political attacks and also charges that Republicans have been insufficiently responsive to his attempted bipartisanship.

But his current response to these problems represents a peril to Democracy and the proper functioning of government. By waging unsubstantiated rhetorical assaults on his opposition, and then demanding that they prove their innocence, Obama is headed into the domain of demagoguery — maybe even McCarthyism.

An ominous place for a sitting president to be.

New documents uncovered by Judicial Watch show Pelosi took 85 trips on military aircraft

October 14, 2010 2 comments

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and members of her family and staff took 85 tax-paid trips on military aircraft between March 2, 2009, and June 7, 2010, according to new documents uncovered by Judicial Watch.Pelosi’s daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons were on the June 20, 2009, flight from Andrews AFB to San Francisco where Pelosi resides, according to the documents.

On July 2, 2010, Pelosi took a grandson on a flight from Andrews to Travis AFB, north of San Francisco.Judicial Watch obtained the documents as a result of a January 25, 2009, Freedom of Information Act FOIA request.Previous documents received by the non-profit watchdog group revealed that Pelosi’s travel “cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over a two-year period — $101,429.14 of which was for in-flight expenses, including food and alcohol,” according to Judicial Watch.”For example, purchases for one Pelosi-led congressional delegation traveling from Washington, DC, through Tel Aviv, Israel to Baghdad, Iraq May 15-20, 2008 included:

Johnny Walker Red scotch, Grey Goose vodka, E&J brandy, Bailey’s Irish Crème, Maker’s Mark whiskey, Courvoisier cognac, Bacardi Light rum, Jim Beam whiskey, Beefeater gin, Dewar’s scotch, Bombay Sapphire gin, Jack Daniels whiskey, Corona beer and several bottles of wine.”“Pelosi’s abusive use of military aircraft demonstrates a shocking lack of regard for the American taxpayer and the men and women who serve in the U.S. Air Force. Speaker Pelosi may have a frequent flyer record for taxpayer-financed luxury jet travel,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Watch Out For ATM Skimming

October 14, 2010 2 comments

The next time you pull up to an ATM, take a closer look at the machine. Does it look a little clunkier than usual?Look too at what’s around you: Are there mirrors? Is there a brochure holder over your shoulder? Does it look like there might be a false panel or an extra light bar attached to the machine? If something looks or feels amiss, walk away. They also might have what’s called a pinhole camera mounted over your shoulder — say, in a plastic holder for brochures or a false panel — that records your fingers tapping in your PIN. Or there could be an overlay on the keypad that does so.Tips to Stay Safe• Be picky about what ATMs you use. “Don’t go up to an ATM in a dark place,” Krebs said. “Find one that’s in a well-lit area, publicly visible and not tucked away somewhere.”• Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t look right or feel right, move on to the next ATM.• As you key in your PIN, cover the keyboard with the other hand to block anyone or a camera from seeing.• Don’t use ATMs with unusual signage or instructions, such as a command to enter your PIN twice to complete a transaction.•

Use ATMs with which you’re familiar. If you travel, stick to ATMs at a bank branch. “Using a stand-alone ATM is like playing Russian roulette, especially in major metropolitan cities,”Keypads that aren’t concave, for example, could have overlays that flatten or pull the surface of the keys out. A card-reader slot might have a perfectly molded attachment over it that pops off.

Some skimmers are custom-made with matching molding and a color that corresponds to a targeted ATM.
