“What I’m most curious about is whether it’s your belief that in this time of rising debts and medical issues and all the rest if Republicans would go out on the limb and try to make this a campaign issue while sitting very firmly, without much question, on the wrong side of history on it.”
Shepard Smith likes to close his shows with “From the Journalists at Fox News”, a comment that is obviously designed to mark the distinction with prime time commentators. This tag line would not disturb me if it weren’t so obvious that his reporting is skewed, not expressly liberal mind because that does not bother me as I’m used to it. It’s his pompous, smug demeanor in presenting the “news”.
At the start of his 3pm show he reported President Obama’s flip flop on gay marriage. As he went into the commercial break he said this: “The President Is Now In the 21st Century”. Of course one could interpret the decision as tossing thousands of years of human civilization under the bus, but that might be considered a commentary lacking in journalistic objectivity. Of course Shep Smith lacks objectivity especially if history seems to contradict his personal sensibilities.
It is his latter comments the are annoying as provided in the link at Mediaite.com. In a back and forth with Bret Baier at least the latter remained objective and balanced. It was his allusion to gay rights and marriage being at a place similar to that of the Civil Rights Movement. He also commented on “States Rights” derisively, of course. I’m tired of this ignorant parallel. It’s time for Shep Smith’s “teachable moment”.
Let’s start with States Rights. The rights of the states are clearly stated in the 10th Amendment. In layman’s terms whatever powers are not provided to the Federal Government is the province of the states. Throughout the annals of human history, laws have always been abused. States Rights was a claim used to deprive African Americans of their freedom, then their rights and often their lives. It is the darkest chapter in American history precisely because law was used to perpetuate real hatred and bigotry. But, and there is a but, this chapter in our nation’s history does not invalidate the legitimate function of the 10th Amendment in its application to American life, culture and society.
RUSH: Here’s Sandra in Ellisville, Mississippi. Hey, Sandra, great to have you on the EIB Network. Hi.
CALLER: Mega dittos, Rush. Much to my shock this morning at 11:15, I’m just gonna make this short and sweet, I get a call from my sixth grader in elementary school saying that I had to bring him another shirt or go home. And I didn’t understand what the problem was. He was wearing his brother, who’s in the Marine Corps fighting in Afghanistan, a United States Marine Corps shirt that had the logo of the bulldog that said “If you’re not the lead dog,” on the front. On the back it says, “the view never changes,” and it’s the rest of the bulldog, and he was flagged to the office by the principal for being inappropriate and offensive.
RUSH: Wait just a second now. What kind of shirt?
CALLER: It’s a United States Marine Corps —
RUSH: No, was it T-shirt, a button-down shirt?
CALLER: No, it’s a T-shirt that my son got in boot camp.
Everyone must be ready to face the fact, that now that our President has endorsed an open sin such as homosexuality, our nation is deserving of judgement, all because of what our President did.
We must all pray tonight for God to forgive us our sins and pray for Obama’s salvation, that he comes to know Christ as his savior, for such a horrible thing will not go unpunished.
We also need to pray that God is merciful to our nation, for we serve under Obama, whether we like it or not. God rules in the affairs of men, sets up kingdoms and takes them away.
Endorsing such an evil thing as homosexual marriage is not a good thing, and no good will ever come of it.
“There’s been a lot of speculation in connection with the Breitbart case,” he admitted.Winter says after he directly told one news agency – which he refused to name – that Cormier was “absolutely” not connected to the Breitbart case, that news agency actually reported the opposite, that he was involved.“As soon as they did that, I had like 20 different agencies call up [to confirm that],” Winter said. “I spent half the day doing disclaimers [to stress],
‘No, I didn’t say that!’ Sometimes [the media] need to make a big sensational issue.”Michael CormierWinter described Cormier, 61, as “a good guy,” who was one of 17 forensic techs employed by the office.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus has announced it will introduce legislation designed to strip Americans of the right to defend themselves. Called “Stop Shoot First Laws,” the amendment to the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill under consideration in the House would deny states federal funding allocated under section 505 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 if they continue to allow citizens to defend themselves.Congressional Democrats Introduce Amendment to Outlaw Self Defense 120508 grijalva ellison apDemocrats Raul Grijalva asnd Keith Ellison.“Shoot first laws have already cost too many lives,” said Progressive Caucus co-chairs Keith Ellison and Raul Grijalva upon introducing their amendment.

A joint drill between military and police in South Florida involving troops storming a building in the middle of the night was characterized by local media coverage not as a frightening example of how Americans are being acclimatized to accept a state of martial law but as a ‘cool tourist story’.
Panic-stricken residents in Coconut Grove were awoken at 1am to the sound of simulated gunfire and explosions as military helicopters hovered over buildings and dispatched troops to the ground.
The Department of Defense drills prompted a deluge of 911 calls, but instead of asking why the military is terrifying American citizens on U.S. soil with drills designed to acclimate the public to accept martial law, local news station WSVN-TV framed the incident as a ‘cool tourist story’.
